SMART GOALS AND TARGETS

Once you have planned your project, turn your attention to developing several goals that will enable you to be successful. Goals should be SMART - specific, measurable, agreed upon, realistic and time-based.
A goal might be to hold a weekly project meeting with the key members of your team or to organise and run a continuous test programme throughout the project.
The acronym SMART has a number of slightly different variations, which can be used to provide a more comprehensive definition for goal setting:
S - specific, significant, stretching
M - measurable, meaningful, motivational
A - agreed upon, attainable, achievable, acceptable, action-oriented
R - realistic, relevant, reasonable, rewarding, results-oriented
T - time-based, time-bound, timely, tangible, trackable
This provides a broader definition that will help you to be successful in both your business and personal life.

Short analysis of commedia Dell'arte

Here is my short analysis on the play:
The list of characters include:

Arlecchino was the most famous. He was an acrobat and a wit, childlike and amorous. He wore a cat–like mask and motley colored clothes and carried a bat or wooden sword.

Brighella, Arlecchino's crony, was more roguish and sophisticated, a cowardly villain who would do anything for money.

Il Capitano (the captain) was a caricature of the professional soldier—bold, swaggering, and cowardly.(my chosen character)

Il Dottore (the doctor) was a caricature of learning—pompous and fraudulent.

Pantalone was a caricature of the Venetian merchant, rich and retired, mean and miserly, with a young wife or an adventurous daughter.

Pedrolino was a white–faced, moon–struck dreamer and the forerunner of today's clown.

The handsome Inamorato (the lover) went by many names. He wore no mask and had to be eloquent in order to speak the love declamations.

The Inamorata was his female counterpart; Isabella Andreini was the most famous. Her servant, usually called Columbina, was the beloved of Harlequin. Witty, bright, and given to intrigue, she developed into such characters as Harlequine and Pierrette.

La Ruffiana was an old woman, either the mother or a village gossip, who thwarted the lovers.

Cantarina and Ballerina often took part in the comedy, but for the most part their job was to sing, dance, or play music.

*This Information was taken from http://italian.about.com/library/weekly/aa110800b.htm

The general plot to the play is:

n spite of its outwardly anarchic spirit, the commedia dell'arte was a highly disciplined art requiring both virtuosity and a strong sense of ensemble playing. The unique talent of commedia players was to improvise comedy around a pre–established scenario. Responding to each other, or to audience reaction, the actors made use of the lazzi (special rehearsed routines that could be inserted into the plays at convenient points to heighten the comedy), musical numbers, and impromptu dialogue to vary the happenings on stage.

pupet mechanism and ideas

While researching puppet mechanisms I found this picture which I thought would be good for my toad.I is quite similar to mine as it has a toad like mouth.Although I wouldn't use the eye lashes as tosd is associated as a male(though there's nothing wrong with him having them).
I want to use the wire frame so I can hold it like so:
This will control how the mouth moves.
I would use thick wire to make this look work.
I have found some ideas for if I wanted to make a moving mouth.
I thought of this from when I was little and I used to get these toys from cheap stores. That being said, the toys themselves lasted quite a while.
They work by having a thread attacked to the inside of the mouth that goes down to the handle. By pulling the the handle catch the mouth opens and closes.
This would be a good idea for my toads mouth.
I would include a handle on mine that could be pulled to make the mouth open and close easily.

Latex design

First view of my mask that has had latex added to it.We had to add a little layer to begin with and let it dry.

As you can see from the picture above its starting to smooth into the mask.
Looking at the picture now I realize how uneven the nose looks but this is something to fix in the future.

There looks like there are a few ultra white patches. This can be fixed when I apply the third layer.
This is a update of my mask which has had to have another coat on t as it's gone moldy

my chosen character

The characters mask I have chosen to make is capitano.
His looks include:
Colourful patchwork outfits(both trousers and tops)including a white ruffle under his shirt.I thought about making a clay hat to go with it.
He wears a curvy hat that may be either blue or white(depending on what the designer prefers) .In the play his characteristics are portrayed as being very self indulgent (to the point where it becomes negative). He will talk big but when it comes to a fight will try and avoid it usually cowering in the face of enemys.
Below is a image of the mask that Capitano weres:
The mask has a red/Orange tint to it.with a dark black moustache.
The mask it's self looks angry which doesn't really go towards the self loving characters that I've read about.
This is my version(that keeps the shape but has had a slight bit of detail added to give it a bit of difference.

clients thoughts on costume (design problems)

The review, from the persona whom wore my Toad head was that:
It was sometimes hard to see our of the mask as the eye holes were a bit further then her actually eyes.It would have been nice to have gotten a waist coat but I never found one while looking in charity shops.Mask was a bit narrow.
Was over computable and roomy.Costume was overall nice.

My designs generally looked like what I had in mind especially when it came to the eyes(which I was most impressed with). The mouth also came out quite well. The size of the head was a little to small for the client in certain parts and in the future I will make sure to do several measurements to ensure this doesn't happen again. The clothes themselves were the right size bit I wish I had had more time to try and make a belly (as toad was larger then how my design turned out).my design weight wise was fantastic as it was light and had juat the right amount of space so it was easy to move around with. There we're no problems in that department.
This asks o goes for stability which was not a issue with both the head and the costume.
If I could I would like to go back to colouring my toads head in and May be chose a lighter colour paint as it's skin came out a lot more darker then intened. Also I would have liked to make this mouth a bit smaller.
Would  be over easy for someone else reproduce if needed.

Evaluation of Sewhat

The head that I made:
Head includes lights(LED) for eyes that can be turned on.Head has been painted a green and brown colour. The mouth was built out of the face and had been painted as well. There's a toungue hanging out of the mouth. The toungue is made out of velvet and has been stuffed.Overall I really liked my design and found the head was fun to make.
I did not actually wear a head or go one the cat walk.

wind in the willows final head

This is the result of my final toad head.As you can see I have painted it (with dark brown and green) that colours of a toad.I am really glad I used tape to stick my head together as it has given a really nice wrinkle around the eye effect making it look quite like a really toad.I noticed how angry my toad looks because of the way the eyes were stuck on.This was intentional but still seems to work.

This is the toads eyes once they had been lit up.I think this will be a good effect on the cat walk and gives my head a diffrent look to all the others.

The textile younger that was added last.Through doing it I was shown how to use a knitting machine by a lovely person (this will come in handy in future). The materiel it's self is made out of red velvet and has been stitched around the edges (also stuffed).I'm glad I added this as it looks quite cute personally.

A full body shot of me wearing the Toad head (I have a similar coat at hand to use for toad)
Overall I am very happy with this project and hope others will go this well.

update on mask

This is my first attempt at making a toad mask.As you can see I was way off with making it even slightly familiar.Tape was all over my attempted to try secure a mask that was falling to pieces.I do not like this one at all.

Here is my better updated version which I worked at home on.I am ten times happier with this one and I feel that it actually looks like a toad. The eyes are LED lights that were taken from my cupboard.I am glad that I had them put on my toad as they can light up and look like galaxy eyes.
Below are pictures of it from a diffrent angles;

Next week I will be finishing off the back and then painting the front.

Toad and study's

For my Wind in the willows costume I thought it would be appropriate to study a Toad and it's movements. This way I could get a better feel of it and become more familiar. Here is a video I found of a Toad jumoong(I belive it's a recreation)but still serves its purpose.

http://youtu.be/FvxEkFymua8

Unfortunately my search for toad movements failed(although it did bring up a lot of petitions which was entertaining) I found this very intresting picture which explained
The insides and workings of a toad. This could give me a little help later on and is quite intresting in its self.

A generally look at Toads outfit gives off a posh sophisticated air.He wears long trench coats and a hat. He's also quite fat which,in the time of which Wind in the willows was written, would have been a stature of wealth as it showed that you had money for food and so fourth. The toad below seems to have a more happy modified look then others I have seen but still fit a the character. I have bought a trench coat that I will have to slightly edit to look like his.

Research into Mr.Toad(characteristics)

Mr.Toads background is that he is the town squire. He is very rich and owns his own house.(he has a soft spot for Harris tweed suits which should be noted)
The characteristics of Toad is Toad is lovable and has his heart in the right place
The way language is used by Mr.Toad is that he is quite well spoken (because of his rich background).
Personality of Mr.Toad is that because of how rich he is this can make him quite mean and narcissistic As well As it is said that he lacks in basic common sense .But other wise is very intelligent and creative.
Toads relationship with Mr.mole is shown because Mr.mole knew Mr.Toads later farther.
Toads character grows through out the play, this can been seen as the play progresses he starts to feel remorse for his selfishness ( he even gets arrested for crashing his motocar and is sent to jail, which he later escapes by dressing up as a washer woman)
Other images of Toad:
I feel as if this image expresses Toads characteristics. The way he is so relaxed and swarve. His posh (well off) air i s shown through his cigar and posh gloves.
Most of the other characters don't wear the type of clothes that others do. With toad being so rich e often indulges in pleasures.Though toad does appear to have a lack of common sense some times(The prison episode being a examle)

References to stage plays and props

A great example we looked at for stage plays was War Horse which featured horses, made from wood, which were constructed in such a way that they looked real and would move like a real horse. These people had studied the way horses moved for months to make the perfect movement.
Here are the horses that were used on stage:
Here we see the inside of the model of the horse. Two people help move the horse around by moving the hoves. Both people have to get into a similar rytham if they want to successfully control it.
Here is a link to the video that shows how it works:
http://youtu.be/h7u6N-cSWtY
The video helps us understand how much work goes into props.

Wind in the willows further work

I shall be designing a costume For one of my classmates Vicky. The character that was chosen was Mr.Toad.
Her shoe size is : size 4
Top size: size 8
Trousers size is small: 8-10

I have researred what can be done in the way of teqniques for using card board(as I will be making a head with it).
I have had a idea to make Mr.toads eyes out of cut out milk carton bottoms
I will cut the bottom half so its like this:
I also had the idea for eyes that I could go to £1 shop and find some mini lights that can be attached to look like eyes.
This will be a work in progress but so far I have a idea of what to do(soon will come the construction.

wind in the williows research

For the wind in the willows costume design I decided to look up what the costumes from the plays
looked like and how they were designed to be used around the stage.
here are some examples I found;
Both actors and actresses sometimes wear horns and head gear that relates to their chosen animal.
As you can see , depending on which play you look at, the details on the costumes range.
I have noticed that a lot of the characters appear to be wearing large trench coats and overalls . Maybe this is something to consider in the future when I design my outfit.
Colours appear to be quite dull(depending on which character you look at.
I also searched up the original book characters in their outfits, here are some examples:

Here we see toad in a trench coat and large gloves.
The colours he wears are mostly brown. Both pictures depict Toad as being quite elegant in fashion(compaired to the others).

Badges look features a scarf and brown, dull colours . He owns a massive brown jacket
and a strippy underneath top.

Mole wears suspenders and large trousers. His colours mainly feature white and brown. Like all characters he has black shoes.

starting wind in the willows (unit 85)

Notes:
We will be working with the tales of Beatrix potter and costume design.
We will be working with a script as well which will help us developed.
'The characters referred to in the narrative should act out with mime or movement's
We watched videos as a reference e.g

http://youtu.be/1jWhj59Bb0E

This helped us to see what we should try to make, the costumes are made in such a way that they feels like they are real.Fur and textures look realistic as well. The theme of the video we watched  is ballet.Music was of course played in the back ground.

We also watched some one who talked about designs that were made and how they were made. This is the link to the video

http://youtu.be/zAgWwBM5cIw

In this video a professional costume designer talked about the process.
She spoke about how the costume interpreted the role and how important it was in the play. Also how you need to think about the fabrics and the design of the period.
Fabrics will help develop the story.

We were shown a trailer of the Wind in the willows production. In this the characters appeared to be more human but with very few characteristics.
The people appeared to be wearing boats and carts.

For future reference I shall have to watch some of the Wind in the willows animations.
This way I will get a better idea of the characters and how they act and what they wear.
Through out the animation no words were actually said and the animation was quite disturbing.
