masking tape method (how to help guide)
1,left:Example of the type of tape i would use this is my main method
2.Right;final piece/Example of what i hope to achieve
Idea and explanation:
below is a link i found that would help(aid me) when trying to create smooth lines or shapes,This is very much relevant for my work at the moment as i am trying to get smooth shapes edges and line (this feeding into my idea) but hasn't worked so far due to my very shaky hands (Thius is mostly due to anxiety. Thus why i haver thought about using masking tape as a aid as i can not correct my shaking problem.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDV6x1_Nhrg
problems with t his method have cropped up.Mainly due to my own stupidity,For example sticking the tape on to tight and then resulting in having to rip the tape of and then ripping the piece: example below:

Artist reference Nina chanel abney

1*
2*''At first glance, Abney’s graphic colorful style might recall modernist painter Stuart Davis, but her subject matter is distinctively contemporary. Abney’s narrative paintings and collages—filled with a pulsating mix of color, text, and figures—swiftly tackle topics related to race, gender, and politics. Dreams, personal experience, and conversations inspire her works; police brutality has figured prominently in recent paintings, leading many to associate the works with the Black Lives Matter movement. The artist has gained steady momentum ever since a fierce MFA thesis show at Parsons in 2007 that caught the attention of her gallery, Kravets Wehby, and the Rubell Collection, which led to her inclusion in the important traveling exhibition “30 Americans.” Her works were recently shown at the Whitney, and this can be seen as part of the artist-run super PAC “For Freedoms” at Jack Shainman and in Jeffrey Deitch and Joseph Sitt’s outdoor street art exhibition Coney Art Walls.'
This quote was taken directly from the artist bio on the website that has been referenced below. i felt it was relevant to include as it suggest her style of work.As well as this it also references similar artists Or more artist she takes after) while this is great i still believe her art is her own.
Artists Methods/mediums:
prodomently paining
Initial thoughts:
Much like my last post i had set my self the goal of finding artist similar to my self whom i felt i could use in junction with the AMW ( alternative mrs world)idea.Automatically this piece and artist struck me,Not only because of the figure and without question the diversity, but the shapes and figures that can be seen in the background. My favourite part of the picture as a whole would be the grass the simple shape that to the onlooker could be interpreted as grass,While some shapes in the background are not as obvious this is exactly what i am looking for when trying to get inspiration for the content in my art,Over all this piece is great to me.
What do i take from this image?:
This image may not realate as such to alternative mrs work but i do feel however it links in with my theme of human interaction and human space in general.Mostly due to the actual matter the picture deals with women and nudes and humans in general. while this may not be a strong connection the image layout alone is enough in my view to continue to look at this artist.

Artist reference: Saman Khatibi

left image: 'No ones going quietly'*1 Right image:'With tenderness and longing'*1
*2'Working across painting, sculpture, embroidery, and tapestry, Khatibi envisions scenes that emphasize primal impulses and power struggles among human beings. “I am interested in the male-female interaction, and the thin line that exists between our fears and desires,” Khatibi says. Recent paintings follow a group of white nude females in exotic landscapes, where they commingle with wild animals—riding alligators, hunting rabbits, draping snakes and octopi over their shoulders. “My women are vulnerable and yet predators at the same time. They are also depicted within the same plane as the animals, who represent power, danger, and our primitive instincts,” she says, though she notes that the women have an ambiguous relationship with power, violence, sensuality, and one another. “I suppose they are all me—and they are all bits and pieces of us all,” she offers. Khatibi’s works will feature in solo shows this fall at NICC Vitrine and Super Dakota in Brussels and The Cabin LA in Los Angeles.'
This quote was directly sourced from the a reputable and correct course. I felt it was very nessasery to mention as i have experimented with similar/same mediums as the artist.
Artists methods and mediums:
Initial thoughts:
While looking for artist who illustrated similar to myself and ideas for general layout i came across
Saman Khatibi who's colourful and all most pre raphlite work attracted me; I found the two images to be polar opposites of each other (not just because of the bright blue happier perception of 'No ones going quietly') but because of what the women depicted in the two paintings could be seen doing.Skinning animals and the dead carcasses of animals really pushed aside the initial thoughts of how beautiful the images were.I feel both these paintings try to get across how we in the past days interacted with our surrounds and what we would call food (though i myself do not indulge in this type of act).
What do i take from these images?
while these images do not hold a massive influence when it comes to my theme of space i feel i can look at the genral interaction between the figures and also the chance to take my work in less plain content and give the viewer a more uneasy feel

looking into the space we interact in ideas
The basic ideas
As i was wanting to take this project in a different direction to what i had initially planned i looked into human interaction (The space we inhabit). I first listed all the most generic places where we would interact with someone or most likely take up their space.Wanting to also think into personal space a lot more.
http://www.medicalbag.com/business/waiting-rooms-of-the-best-medical-practices/article/472455/
images for reference taken from the links listed;
My initial thought was to look at common places that included space (and my idea of it). The first was the doctors including places like the Dentist, options, waiting rooms, and even interview rooms. These ideas came to my head most because of the fact that i myself had been in many of these places and had had to have sat next to some one whom i would either rather not sit near/or sat next to some one i otherwise would never think to engage 9in.Many times i could feel like my personal space/or personal bubble was being invaded thus bringing life to my FMP idea.
Starting my ideas off:
I also wanted to bring in my idea of abstract and my illustration skills so i stated expanding my thoughts;while trying new medium i decided to mack up one of my ideas this was a quick image
the result was something i was very happy with;
This image was made in a lecture and contains sides of tables, shapes, human form pieces constructed into abstract. To put it simply i took elements of certain objects or people and drew them up. concentrations more on the lines of the body.
I enjoyed this idea so much i decided to carry it on further (MOST OF THIS WORK CAN BE FOUND IN MY SKETCH BOOK)
Carrying on my idea of shapes and line i decided to paint up some ideas (feeling that not only was this good practice but would be great
my portfolio work.
What helps the most;
A critical part of my work has always been observing people and the environment this project still continued such observations. But i did not feel inclined to do so i felt joy.

alternative mrs world ideas(and experimentation)
For my first idea i started to look into shapes(and the space in-between them) also pulling in my knowledge of prisms and shapes(which i had been doing about in maths).I wanted to pull in shapes and the people that inhabit these shapes (e.g people being inside shapes either trapped or inhabiting).
For a start i looked into general shape ideas i sketched the out (so that i would have a good reference below are some of the pictures used:

references (building ideas)
After having a brainstorm of ideas i wrote down these notes(translated so they could be understood);
- Space ideas and interpretations
- journey into space and time, walking space,
- Emotional space(people going round in loops) Relating to the habits in life that we tend to repeat.people hurting us over and over again.
- Balance both spiritually and otherwise(looking into balance in life being good or bad)
- Being a waste of space both physically and mentally.
- Look into 2D or 3D space(dimensions)Perhaps looking into space between
- Light in space, sound within space, feeling within space(the senses in other words)
- Music being in your head or space.
- Memory/space/emotional
- Perceptions/how you are feeling and how others see you imagine other people thoughts and what they thought when they saw you.how they felt and if you could feel all these feelings for your self.
- Fabric space (Thinking of the fact that meters of fabric are between me and my body.
- People being in a house miles apart from their and never really speaking too them. But still being close to them.
- Movement with space(gravity related pulling back to the theme of space )
- Look at enviroment/buses/doctors and dentist(places which people gather but not just to see each other)
- Astronomy (more of a obvious idea when talking about space)idea that has been put down but should still be avoided)perhaps drifting towards the idea of black holes and deep dark space pits.
- directions (compus )given example is what is up and what is down.

idea and concepts
For our new topic we were given space as a concept which we rewound then incorporate into our miss world alternative theme. While working on this unit i want to look at drag and really want to push the boat out like those who have been in miss world. since this post i have had a general look into the works and who has been in it. this has given me a idea of how far you could go.To start with i thought up a few quick ideas of where i could take this concept and still include my style and illustration.Below are some of the things i noted down so i could maybe build on them later or consider:
- Drawing stapled on jackets and pieces of clothing(having a solar system theme)
- Drawings stitched onto clothes(maybe a white shirt or dress in some way)
- Drawing's transferred onto a top from transfer paper.
i felt that it would be a good idea to actually look into the meaning(or meanings)of the word so it would give me a better idea of what to do, below is the meanings pasted:
verb
3rd person present: spaces
- 1.position (two or more items) at a distance from one another."the poles are spaced 3m apart"
2.
informal
be or become euphoric or unaware of one's surroundings, especially from taking drugs.
"I was so tired that I began to feel totally spaced out"
this information is taken from the link provided below.

i felt looking into the meanings would help in the future .

New project start ( A brief look into Alternative mrs world)
A brief description
The event started in 1972,The motto was "Its not about beauty its about transfrormation" .In this event anything went. This show followed suit from the original miss world in that it featured Day wear, Swim wear, and evening wear and then included a personality interview(which was no scripted as desired by the founder of the show Andrew logan)
In the past people who attended the shows ranged from famous to being no bodies (who would soon receive praise and recognition for their work in later years.People who attended the shows were known for being called Freaks, show offs and drag queens.
Back history( a look into what went on around the days of Alternate miss world):
The actual miss world (which the show got part of its name and also part of it theme from) had been run by Eric Morley which had been held in London 197 and was later attacked by feminists with flour bombs.Problems were seen with the alternate version as some saw "men dressing up as women and having fun and being themselves" a problem. These drag artist were known for challenging the law of gay behaviour. All the while hippies were been beaten for similar reasons (dressing differently)
First show:
The first show which was titled Party took place in 1972 was inspired by Andrew logan(who founded Alternative miss world). He had the idea for a new type of show after he went to a dog show called crafts. He later on went to make said party and invited all his other well known friends (who had a similar status to him at the time. This was recorded by Jack Harzan who went on to use shots from the party in his film called A Splash which was about David hockneys life.
List of past shows and their themes:
1972 Party-(explained above)
1975 Wild-Prior to the punk revolution,Done at The Wharf in a share house
1978 circus-Known as being one of the best and most defining of the shows the judges were in cages and the whole show was done in a massive carnival tent. This show was co hosted by Divine. At one point a donkey (which was also the throne for the winner) was thrown of stage into the audience.
1981 Royal imperial-
1985 water-
1986 earth-
1991 Air-
1995 fire-
1998 void-
