meson scene

meson scene:

background, setting, environment, milieu, mise-en-scène mean the place, time, and circumstances in which something occurs. background often refers to the circumstances or events that precede a phenomenon or development <the shocking decision was part of the background of the riots. A great example of this is a video me and my class mates watched lthe other day that was supposed to advertise a new kenzo perfum taht had came out. Below is a link to it:
https://youtu.be/ABz2m0olmPg

First of the video in general was amazing to me. So much emotion perforated in it and the actress was so good as well. There were really strong element of MS taht had been captured in her movements and the surroundings (the building for one and the way it was symmetrical) some of the places she would stand in) one part that I felt was quite iconic was when she licked the head of a bust (believed to be winston Churchill ) I felt this could mean taht she was trying to take away how power that had been built up (being a male figure ) and could suggest that women were also just as strong. Another thing taht it could have suggested was that she was trying to diffenatiae the past as obviously she couldn't have done something like that in the time for multiple reason.

composition

Composition:

In the visual arts—in particular paintinggraphic designphotography, and sculpturecomposition is the placement or arrangement of visual elements or ingredients in a work of art, as distinct from the subject of a work. It can also be thought of as the organization of the elements of art according to the principles of art.

examples of composition:

Above are some of the ideas of themes that can be followed if you want to do compostion. Some come across as more loud and bright then others and colours and shapes are highly diffrent.

here is one image i have found that i feel uses composition i like the painting style and the brightness.this does not contrast with other pieces of work and i feel doesn't try to hard to be something it isn't.
The term composition means 'putting together,' and can apply to any work of art, from music to writing to photography, that is arranged or put together using conscious thought. In the visual arts, composition is often used interchangeably with various terms such as design, form, visual ordering, or formal structure, depending on the context.

Semiotics

Semiotics is the study of signs and symbols and the use or interpritation.
Below is a diagram that explains the 3 parts of Semiotics:

Symbols:
signs where the relation between signifier and signified is purely conventional and culturally specific, e.g., most words.

Iconic:
signs where the signifier resembles the signified, e.g., a picture.

Indexical:
signs where the signifier is caused by the signified, e.g., smoke signifies fire.

This ties into art as it helps show different ways a picture or a message can be brought across. The media and graphic designers use the method regulary.

A break down of surrealism

This post is for my own reference and is to help in explaining surrealism all words are eater my own or are taken from the relevant articles,Please note that further work will be added later on.

a good link for all the information needed:http://www.tate.org.uk/learn/online-resources/glossary/s/surrealism

A 20th century avant garde movement in art and literature which sought to release the creative potential of the unconscious mind, for example by the irrational Jutapealsen  of images. The artists which inhenrtirted this movement were as followed:

Marcel Duchamp:
One of parcels pieces of work that was most notable to me was this piece:
Marcel Duchamp, Nude (Study), Sad Young Man on a Train (Nu [esquisse], jeune homme triste dans un train), 1911–12, oil on cardboard mounted on Masonite, 100 x 73 cm (39 3/8 × 28 3/4

i felt like this piece was quite a illusion and that it has a strange look to it.

and writer whose work is associated with Cubismconceptual art and Dada, although he was careful about his use of the term Dada and was not directly associated with Dada groups. Duchamp is commonly regarded, along with Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse , as one of the three artists who helped to define the revolutionary developments in the plastic arts in the opening decades of the twentieth century, responsible for significant developments in painting and sculpture. Duchamp has had an immense impact on twentieth-century and twenty first-century art. By World War I, he had rejected the work of many of his fellow artists (like Henri Matisse) as "retinal" art, intended only to please the eye. Instead, Duchamp wanted to put art back in the service of the mind.

Duchamp's early art works align with Post-Impressionist styles. He experimented with classical techniques and subjects. When he was later asked about what had influenced him at the time, Duchamp cited the work of Symbolist painter Odilon Redon, whose approach to art was not outwardly anti-academic, but quietly individual.

Georgina O keefe:

Georgia Totto O'Keeffe was an American artist. She is best known for her paintings of enlarged flowers, New York skyscrapers, and New Mexico landscapes. O'Keeffe has been recognized as the "Mother of American modernism"

Max Ernst, sir henry moore ,Rene magritte ,joan miro Salvador Dali, pablo picasso, man ray , Dorothea tanning. Mc escher.
French poet André Breton launched this movement in Paris in 1924
It became an international movement including British surrealism which formed in 1936
They were strongly influenced by Sigmund Freud (the founder of psychoanalysis) and his theories about the unconscious
The aim of surrealism was to reveal the unconscious and reconcile it with rational life
Key artists involved in the movement were Salvador Dalí, Max Ernst, René Magritte and Joan Miró
Two broad types of surrealism can be seen: the oneiric (dream-like imagery) and automatism (a process of making which unleashed the unconscious by drawing or writing without conscious thought)
Some (such as Max Ernst) used new techniques such as frottage and collage to create unusual imagery

Hannah Hoch(DADA)

Taken from the link: http://www.whitechapelgallery.org/about/press/hannah-hoch/

She is best known for her work of the Weimar period, when she was one of the originators of photomontage. Photomontage, or, fotomontage, is a type of collage in which the pasted items are actual photographs, or photographic reproductions pulled from the press and other widely produced media.[1] Höch's work existed to dismantle the fable and dichotomy that existed in the concept of the “New Woman'': an energetic, professional and androgynous woman, who is ready to take their place as man's equal. Her interest in the topic was how the dichotomy was structured, as well as who structures social roles.

Hannah Höch was an important member of the Berlin Dada movement and a pioneer in collage. Splicing together images taken from popular magazines, illustrated journals and fashion publications, she created a humorous and moving commentary on society during a time of tremendous social change. Acerbic, astute and funny, Höch established collage as a key medium for satire whilst being a master of its poetic beauty.

Höch created some of the most radical works of the time and was admired by contemporaries such as George Grosz, Theo van Doesburg and Kurt Schwitters, yet she was often overlooked by traditional art history. At a time when her work has never seemed more relevant, the exhibition puts this inspiring figure in the spotlight.

Höch explored the concept of the ‘New Woman’ in Weimar Germany, presenting complex discussions around gender and identity in a series of both biting and poignant collages. The exhibition includes a number of works from the series From an Ethnographic Museum, in which Höch combines images of female bodies with traditional masks and objects and layers of block colours, capturing the style of the 1920s avant-garde theatre and fashion.

DADA a brief summery

Started in Zurich (close to german)

*Herman hess, leman,  Hugo ball,  Emma hemming
Emma sung and danced and Hugo played piano.
*together they set up a club called Cabiret Voltaire promising the pub owner (who's back room the inhabited for their shows) a increase of beer and sausage that he supplied.
*They spoke about how many people cane on the fist day, saying that it was queuing out if the door. One of those people who cane in was a poet named Tristan vare (who was a known poet) Who then joined the crue.
*Poetry,  music, and dance were all part c of the shows as a standard at the club.
*They had to complete with other Cabiret places
*they then began with shock tactics, thus bought more people,  who would after a while would become aggressive and excited)
*After a whike they realised that by trying to attack the boudoir them themselves were boudoir.

*Hugo ball who was part of the Valtiare, wanted to find a name for one of the dances,to achieve this they put a knife in a book and picked the word it pointed at.The word the knife chose was Dada
*Dada had multiple meanings at that tied into it
A wet nurse
A rocking horse,
The Russian word for.  'Yes he's
This helped the movement as it was just as sensical and had as my h connection with anything else sabotage word it's self.
*Hugo and olsebeck took the stage later in and read out a chant called the.' Negro can't
The dance that accompanied was choreographed by sophie. This dance was not understood by the audience and therefore was not well received.
*Language was key to the DADA move3ment
*To Hugo this languages had been corrupted becasue of politics so Hugo wanted to make e sound,
*from that he decided to become a sound poet, from then he began to work on one of his most popular sounds 'elephant caravan
